É mais uma ideia a fermentar no caldeirão das ideias. Só que desta vez precisou de um passo intermédio, de um fio de algodão normal...

It's another idea brewing in the cauldron of ideas. Only this time it takes an intermediate step to get there... I need to go from a normal cotton yarn ...

Já há muito tempo que não me dedicava a tingir coisas, acho que a ultima vez foi durante a gravidez da Mafalda! Há qualquer coisa que me faz pintar o mundo quando estou grávida e desta vez adorei mesmo o resultado.

O processo é simples mas dá um bocado de trabalho. Usei as tintas Raposa, que são uma espécie de anilinas em pó. Não posso recomendar outras porque estas são as únicas que conheço e ainda não perdi tempo suficiente a estudar o processos e materiais de tinturaria, por isso, tudo o que conheço é mesmo as tintas Raposa.

It's been a long time since I dedicated myself to dye stuff, I think the last time was during the pregnancy of Mafalda! There's something that makes me paint the world when I'm pregnant and this time i am loving the result.

The process is simple but gives a bit of work. i used RAPOSA inks, which is a Portuguese brand and it cames in the form of powder to dye. I can not recommend other because this is the one I know and have not lost enough time to study the materials and processes of dyeing.

Convém ter uns tachos velhos ou qualquer coisa que seja para ficar só para este tipo de trabalhos. Como as quantidades que ia tingir eram pequenas usei latas que reaproveitei de cogumelos e salcichas. Tem de ferver um pouco.

Must have some old pots or anything that is suitable to serve only for this type of work. As the quantities i was dyeing were small I used used cans of mushrooms. It has to boil a little.

Depois de ficarem com a cor certa deixa-se arrefecer e áqui começa a parte chata que é lavar até deixar de deitar cor. Para este projecto especifico não é muito relevente porque não é suposto que estes fios voltem a ver água por isso não vão certamente debotar, mas se for para lavar convém mesmo ser rigoroso neste ponto.

When it gets the right color take of the heat and let it cool, and here begins boring part: wash until the water has no color. For this specific project is not very relevente because these cotton yarn are not to be washed ever again so will certainly not bleach, but if you want to use it in a project that will be washed you better be strict on this point.

Depois é só deixar secar, o que com este calor não é dificil e fazer os novelinhos prontos a usar.

Then just let it dry and make small balls of yarn ready to use.

E assim se passa de um fio cru para uma explosão de cor pronta a usar em qualquer projecto! Por falar nisso tenho um taleigo para fazer que ficava um must com estes cordões a fechar... Pena que as férias já acabaram ou saia agora daqui direitinha para a máquina da costura!

And so you go from a raw cotton yarn to an explosion of color, ready to use in any project! By the way I have a simple bag to make that would look great with these cords to close it... Pity that my vacations are over or i would go straight to the sewing machine!
